I’m ready to help
Andrew Altschul mediates and arbitrates employment, ERISA and other civil litigation disputes. Andrew has over 30 years’ experience representing both businesses and individuals in all aspects of employment disputes, including ERISA claims. He has tried cases before juries, the bench, and arbitrators. He’s argued appellate cases before the 9th Circuit, DC Circuit, Oregon Court of Appeals and Oregon Supreme Court.
In 2020 (before we even learned about Covid), Andrew “hung up his gloves” to focus on helping others resolve their disputes outside the courtroom. Andrew believes that most parties benefit from finding a negotiated solution and loves helping facilitate that process.
He is an approved arbitrator and mediator for the American Arbitration Association, NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation) and Arbitration Service of Portland. And in 2025 was admitted into the Oregon Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.
Mediation is not about winning
Experienced litigators don’t win or lose mediations. When the parties are fully informed, its rare to out maneuver each other. The ultimate goal is to find a similar view of risk and exposure that reveals a path to a mutually acceptable compromise. That’s where Andrew can help.
Andrew views his primary role as helping each side better understand (not agree) with the other side's perspective. He can be evaluative in that role, and enjoys getting into the legal weeds with lawyers, but is mindful that mediation is not a place to resolve facts or disputes in the law.
